Our Story

Some of life’s most meaningful moments aren’t the big ones.

They’re the handwritten family recipe that’s been passed down for generations. The passport stamped after a trip you’ll never forget. The journal filled with dreams, ideas, and memories. The photograph that instantly brings you back to a place, a season, or a moment you wish you could relive.

Those are the moments that inspired Tuscany & Thread.

What began with timeless Italian craftsmanship has grown into something much deeper. A celebration of craftsmanship, connection, and a slower, more intentional way of living.

Long before Tuscany & Thread, my family’s story began in Southern Italy, including the remarkable city of Matera, one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities. I’ve always been drawn to its way of life… the warmth around the dinner table, the pride in making something well, and the belief that authenticity never goes out of style.

Looking back, it’s easy to see that the story of Tuscany & Thread had been unfolding long before I ever realized it.

While visiting Florence, my dad wandered into a small leather workshop tucked along one of the city’s quiet streets. Inside, artisans were handcrafting leather goods using techniques that had been passed down through generations. There were no assembly lines or mass production. Just skilled hands, time-honored craftsmanship, and an incredible pride in creating something built to last.

He brought me home a handmade pair of leather sandals and my very first catch-all tray. The sandals have traveled a lot. The tray is still faithfully catching my keys and sunglasses today.

Each piece carried a story. My dad fell in love with those stories first. Before long, I did too.

Today, we’re honored to work with many of those same family-run workshops and makers throughout Italy. Every leather piece we offer is handcrafted in Florence by artisans we’ve come to know personally. They continue to preserve traditional craftsmanship passed from one generation to the next. Every Italian-made piece we add to our collection, whether leather or not, is chosen with that same commitment to authenticity, quality, and thoughtful design. Everything is made with care by people who believe that how something is made matters just as much as what it becomes.

As Tuscany & Thread has grown, so has our vision.

We still believe in beautiful craftsmanship, but we also believe the things we reach for every day should make life feel just a little simpler. A travel piece that keeps everything organized before you leave home. A wallet you’ll carry for years instead of replacing it every few years. A journal waiting to be filled with ideas, dreams, recipes, or memories. Thoughtful pieces that help quiet the little moments of chaos so you can spend more time being present for the moments that matter.

Because in the end, that’s what this has always been about.

Not simply collecting beautiful things.

But creating a life filled with beautiful moments.

So write the handwritten letter instead of sending the text.

Keep making your grown child’s favorite cookies every time they come home.

Take the trip you’ve been dreaming about.

Print the photographs instead of leaving them on your phone.

Save your grandmother’s recipe in her own handwriting.

Stay at the dinner table a little longer.

Choose fewer things… but choose them well.

And never stop making room for the moments you’ll want to remember.

Thank you for supporting small businesses, extraordinary artisans, and traditions that deserve to be carried into the next generation. It means more than I can say.

I hope that wherever life takes you, Tuscany & Thread becomes a small part of your story.

Con amore,

Steph
